m4atcc Speak up for Midwifery is a campaign launched on 20 August, as a part of Midwives4all. The goal of the campaign is to raise awareness about maternal and newborn health and midwifery through coordinated social media messaging using Thunderclap. The campaign ends on 25 September, when the world’s leaders gather at the UN General Assembly and the summit for the adoption of the post-2015 development agenda starts. On this date, everyone who signed up will have the same message sent from their own social media account

Who is behind this?

Speak up for Midwifery is part of Midwives4all, an initiative by the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs to spread knowledge about the benefits of midwives and evidence-based midwifery. We believe in the power of networks to achieve change. Midwives4all is a campaign and a network where many different stakeholders collaborate around this agenda.

What is the goal of the campaign?

The goal of this campaign is to get as many people as possible to back this cause and ‘donate’ their social media space to spread the message. Please join us at speakupformidwifery.com.

What is the purpose of the campaign?

To raise awareness and knowledge about midwives and evidence-based midwifery as a solution to poor maternal and newborn health.

What is the message of the campaign?

The message of this Thunderclap campaign is: Every woman has the right to survive pregnancy. Speak up for the women and children who can’t. #midwives4all

Why are you doing this?

The reason we are launching this campaign is that, for many pregnant women in low-income countries, a midwife is a rare luxury. Too many women die or lose their children simply because women’s health is not a priority. We want to raise awareness about the importance of midwifery and how the world can become a safer place for women and children.

What is Thunderclap?

Thunderclap is a crowdspeaking platform that helps people be heard by saying something together. It allows a single message to be mass-shared, so it rises above the noise of your social networks. Read more in the Thunderclap FAQ.

Why can’t I find my country in the list under “Tell someone famous” on speakupformidwifery.com?

We could not have all the countries in the world on the list. Instead, we have selected the G20 countries + Sweden.
